Installing Rubber Flooring Proves to be Best Option for “DIY Network”

Published: Santa Ana, Calif., June 7, 2011

When the DIY Network’s “Man Caves” and host Tony “Goose” Siragusa needs a durable and comfortable rubber flooring option they turn to Rubber-Cal and our interlocking rubber tiles. The popular DIY Network show is best known for transforming boring and bland rooms into a manly man’s dream space. Recently, Siragusa and company paid a visit to some of America’s finest who were in desperate need of a space to call their own.

Many might consider a fire station the ultimate man cave, but for the firefighters of Hoboken, New Jersey’s Ladder Company One, theirs fell very short of living up to such high expectations. These men and woman risk their lives every day without a space to relax and unwind in. “Man Caves” was ready to put Rubber-Cal’s recycled rubber tiles to work for the heroes of Hoboken.

The current ‘fitness room’ at the fire station was dilapidated and basically uninhabitable. The equipment was covered in rust and some of the free-weights were being held together with duct tape. The ceiling tiles were either broken or missing and dangerously unhealthy mold covered the bare walls. To make matters worse, the floors were nothing more than a cold hard slab of concrete. This room was hardly fit for working-out, relaxing or even being in. This was no way for a person, let alone, a hero to live.

DIY Network and “Man Caves” called on Rubber-Cal for help turning this run down space into a man cave fit for a king. The DIY crew got to work, starting from the ground up. Man Cave specialist Jason Cameron elected to use Rubber-Cal’s Eco-Sport 1” interlocking rubber tiles. Cameron explained that rubber tiles are soft enough to protect joints and muscles from strenuous activity but durable enough to support and handle heavy gym equipment.

The rubber tiles fit together with specially designed three inch pins for simple installation. One firefighter installed the rubber flooring by himself in just a couple of hours. With the workout room located in the basement, moisture and mold were a real concern. Rubber-Cal’s recycled rubber tiles are water resistant and will not grow mold or mildew. In less than 24 hours the entire room was transformed into a state-of-the-art fitness and relaxation center, complete with brand new fitness equipment and a 50 inch plasma TV.
